Description
descending staircase. The Trappist fathers in charge of the catacomb from 1884 to 1929 used this staircase as the starting point of the visit.
The upper parts of the walls were decorated by the fathers with copies of paintings from the Crypt of Cecilia (from the catacomb below), and other scenes typical of the early Christian iconographic heritage. Facsimile copies of the main inscriptions found in the catacombs of St. Callixtus were placed on the lower parts of the walls, so that visitors could observe them closely.
